Rob Parker and Kelvin Washington react to comments from 49ers GM John Lynch and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan regarding Brock Purdy's contract situation, where they reiterated that the young quarterback is an integral part of the team and will be receiving a contract extension this offseason. Rob and Kelvin weigh in, and debate just how much money Purdy is really worth.
Rob Parker: "I don't think anybody questions whether you want [Purdy] around... it's at what price!... He just wasn't that impressive this year. I get everything John Lynch is saying, but Purdy just didn't play that well. Sometimes you need your quarterback to elevate. When you don't have your best weapons, how do you perform?"
Kelvin Washington: "The question becomes: do you believe Purdy is the engine that makes everything run, or do you believe he's a byproduct of the system in a well-run organization... If he's THE guy, you have to pay him $60 million -- that's the going rate. But if he's just a cog in this thing, you ain't giving him all that! I believe he's above a cog in the system, but below the engine that makes it all go... He's somewhere in between."
