Yesterday, Ben Roethlisberger took part in a charity food distribution through the Farmers to Families Program and the Convoy's of Hope foundation. Awesome.
Also awesome for Steelers fans? The dude looks fit.
Earlier this quarantine, Jay Glazer ripped Roethlisberger's fitness regimen. Ben appears slim, so he's proven Glazer wrong. Good. It was a low blow by the wanna be MMA fighter.
I really don't care what Ben looks like, though. Fat Ben, skinny Ben, big Ben, small Ben. It doesn't matter. The Steelers need healthy Ben.
Randy Fichtner and Mike Tomlin will have a say in this. Roethlisberger is 38 years old. Over his last two healthy seasons in the league, Ben led the league in passing attempts per game.
He led the league in attempts and yards in 2018. Did that contribute to his elbow injury? I'm not sure. I'm certainly not an elbow specialist. Mike Tomlin thought that allowing Ben to cut it loose gave the team the best chance to win. I don't have a problem with that.
I would like to see the Steelers reign him in a little bit this year, though. Roethlisberger is crawling closer to 40 years old every day. He's coming off major surgery. The Steelers need him to be healthy all year.
Ben doesn't need to lead the league in passing this year. The Steelers defense is among the best in football. The running game will get a boost just by virtue of Roethlisberger being back. Count on the running game, lean on the defense, keep Ben healthy.
