No color commentator is worth 17 million dollars a year

According to reports, Tony Romo is going to make 17 million dollars a year calling NFL games for CBS alongside Jim Nantz.

I think Romo is a fantastic color commentator. He's knowledgable, has charisma, and has a sense of humor. Still, I don't think any color commentator is worth that kind of money.

On Sunday's in the fall, if there's a good football game on, I'm going to watch it. I don't care if Attila the Hun is in the booth. I'll mute it. If it's an intriguing matchup, it's going on my television.

The same goes the other way. Jesus himself could rise from the dead and be sitting next to Al Michaels. I'm not going to watch the game if it's Jaguars/Bengals.

I enjoy thoughtful, passionate analysis, but a color commentator has never been a reason why I watch a game or don't watch a game. I would imagine most of America would agree with me.

The announcer isn't the draw. We watch football to watch football, not to hear somebody else talk about himself watching football.

17 million dollars a season for Tony Romo? Hey, it's a great gig if you can get it. It just doesn't make it any more likely that I'm going to watch CBS this fall.
