Prospects are for the Pirates

The Penguins traded their best defensive prospect, Calen Addison, in the Jason Zucker deal.

Live long and prosper, my friend. We hardly knew ye! I won’t shed a single tear because the Penguins traded a prospect.

The Pirates are a small market team in a sport with terribly flawed economics. Pirates fans have been conditioned to treat prospects like gold.

The future is always what is most important.

For the Penguins, the future is now.

Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have a finite amount of time to win a fourth title and Calen Addison may not have really been able to help the Penguins until after the primes of the Pens two mega stars.

Carpe diem! Sieze the day! Tomorrow is never guaranteed! What other cliché’s are applicable here?

The Penguins are interested in winning now. The Pirates are always kicking the can down the road.

The first round pick that the Pens forfeited in this deal may turn out to be a good player like Kasperi Kapanen or Olli Maatta. It could also wind up being Angelo Esposito or Beau Bennett. Who’s to say?

I don’t so much care. Point is, nobody knows.

Jason Zucker is a perfect fit for Sidney Crosby’s left wing as he’s got speed to burn and is largely a responsible defensive player.

Prospects and draft picks be damned. This is about the Penguins in 2020. Jim Rutherford always makes it about today. Pens fans should love him for it.

Carpe diem! Sieze the day! Tomorrow is never guaranteed! Or something...
