Mike Tomlin is on track for the Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Bill Cowher on being voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His resume dictates that he deserves it.

If Cowher is in, I think Mike Tomlin should get in when he hangs it up.

Tomlin is two 8-8 seasons away from having the exact same record as Cowher did when he retired.

That’s the worst record Mike Tomlin has ever had. I’d say it’s safe to assume that AT WORST he will be tied with Cowher in two years.

Tomlin has the same Super Bowl record as Bill Cowher (1-1) and he sports a .642 winning percentage, which is higher than Bill Cowher’s .623.

Both coaches have a winning record in the playoffs.

Cowher’s Steelers went to the playoffs 10 times in 15 years. Tomlin’s have gone 8 times in 13 years.

If the Steelers qualify in each of the next two seasons, then Cowher and Tomlin’s resume’s will be nearly identical.

A lot of Steelers fans say that Cowher was a better coach than Tomlin. The reasoning is because he went to four championship games without a star QB.

Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin has had a franchise quarterback (apart from this season) for his entire head coaching career.

That’s true. BUT people act like Bill Cowher’s teams were devoid of talent. They weren't.

He had Hall of Fame players like Kevin Greene, Rod Woodson, and Jerome Bettis.

He had guys who should one day be in the Hall like Allan Faneca, Troy Polamalu and Ben Roethlisberger.

Tomlin has had good players. Cowher had good players. Noll had good players. You can’t win without them.

When you stack the resume’s up side by side, and realize that Mike Tomlin is going to be around a little while longer, it’s not a stretch to say that he will wind up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He'll deserve it.
